About the Role
The Azure Storage team is responsible for managing a globally distributed, massively scalable storage system used by millions of users and enterprises. As a Software Engineer, you will contribute to the core architecture and scalability of the distributed file system that powers Microsoft’s cloud storage services.
You will play a pivotal role in building and optimizing Azure Storage, solving challenging problems related to performance, reliability, and scalability. Your work will have a tangible impact on systems used globally, affecting how people and businesses interact with technology every day.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement robust, scalable, and secure code for Azure Storage services
- Break down large tasks into manageable deliverables and estimate efforts effectively
- Operate as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), monitoring services for reliability, downtime, and performance issues
- Create system-level architecture and design documents to support scalable software systems
- Collaborate with teams across Microsoft to deliver integrated cloud solutions
- Stay updated with the latest technologies in distributed systems, networking, and storage

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience
- Proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- 1+ years of hands-on experience in software engineering
- Knowledge of software development practices, including version control, testing, and documentation
- Understanding of distributed systems and networking principles
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field
- Experience working with hyperscale storage, metadata services, or distributed computing
- Background in system architecture, memory optimization, and networking
- Familiarity with industry-standard tools and platforms for performance monitoring and optimization
