Role & Responsibilities

As a Backend Software Engineer, you will collaborate with a high-performance team responsible for building core infrastructure capabilities that power IBM Cloud’s next-gen platform.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

Designing and developing backend systems to support IBM’s scalable cloud infrastructure
Writing object-oriented code using PHP, C, and other modern languages
Building REST/SOAP APIs that power scalable services
Integrating enterprise and open-source technologies into a unified developer experience
Working closely with product managers, architects, and other engineering teams to deliver enterprise-grade solutions
Contributing to end-to-end development lifecycle, from design to deployment and maintenance
Championing technical excellence and adherence to secure coding practices

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field
Strong programming experience in C, PHP, and/or related languages
Solid understanding of object-oriented development principles
Hands-on experience with SQL and relational databases
Experience developing and maintaining API interfaces
Familiarity with version control tools such as Git
Knowledge of debugging complex software systems

Preferred Skills & Experience

While not mandatory, the following will give candidates a competitive edge:

Experience in shell scripting and automation
Exposure to Java or Python development
Familiarity with non-relational databases (e.g., ZooKeeper, Memcache)
Working knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes
Previous experience in systems-level programming or infrastructure development
