CANONICAL IS HIRING: CLOUD SUPPORT ASSOCIATE ENGINEER

As a Cloud Support Associate Engineer, you’ll tackle complex technical issues ranging from cloud environment problems to Linux kernel crashes. Your role involves delivering exceptional technical support for Canonical’s full cloud stack, managing cases from problem qualification to resolution, and ensuring high customer satisfaction.
Location: This is a remote role based in AMER or EMEA time zones.
Eligibility:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a technical field (Computer Science, MIS, Electrical Engineering, etc.).
- Linux Troubleshooting: Experience in collecting logs, stack traces, and editing configuration files.
- Server Administration: Experience with Linux server administration.
- Cloud Computing: Strong knowledge of cloud computing concepts (provisioning, monitoring, orchestration, etc.).
- Technical Skills: Hands-on experience with two or more of the following:
- Virtualization/Cloud
- Containers
- Storage technologies
- Networking (bonding, firewalling, bridging, switching, network file system tuning, MTU issues, etc.)
- Programming fundamentals in any language (Bash, Perl, Ruby, JavaScript, C, C++, Go)
- Adaptability: Ability to learn quickly and handle the pressure of a customer-facing role.
- Communication: Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
- Travel: Willingness to travel.
Responsibilities
- Technical Support: Provide technical support for employees from your remote home office.
- Case Management: Take ownership of new cases via telephone, email, and web. Handle cases according to our Service Level Agreement (SLA) with a focus on customer satisfaction.
- Customer Advocacy: Act as an internal customer advocate, keeping them updated promptly.
- Knowledge Sharing: Contribute new knowledge base articles and maintain existing ones.
- Communication: Draft and distribute technical notices for internal and external communication.
- Prioritization: Prioritize tasks to accomplish urgent and important work first.
- Continuous Learning: Stay updated as our products and services evolve.
- Ubuntu Development: Understand the Ubuntu development process to set accurate customer expectations.
- Team Collaboration: Maintain regular communication with local and remote team members.
- Service Improvement: Identify and suggest opportunities to improve service.
- Weekend Rotation: Participate in a regular weekend working rotation.
Additional Skills
- Experience supporting virtualized environments (KVM, Virtual Box, VMWare)
- Experience with other open-source desktop technologies
- Active contribution to open-source projects/forums/code
